Weekend Roundup

The weekend of 8th and 9th of September saw a number of our Cardiff Junior Devils team playing at home and on the road. So whilst this probably wont happen every week (unless of course you really, really want it to), here’s a roundup of all the action….

U11B Cardiff V Slough

A huge amount of positives to take from this game. For most of the team it was their first ever game of hockey on full ice and many of the players have moved straight from LTP so it was their first competitive game of hockey ever!

Congratulations to Matthew Adams on scoring his first goal for the Cardiff Junior Devils – plenty more to come!!!

Man of the Match #22 Evan Thomas

Spirit of the Game #87 Cameron Bartlett

Perhaps far more importantly than any scoreline, the kids had a huge amount of fun, learned loads and made new friends.

Final Score : Cardiff 1 – Slough 16

Invicta vs U13A

A hard fought road game for the U13A after leaving the IAW at 10:30am then spending over 5 hours on the coach and not arriving at the rink until 20 minutes before face-off thanks to traffic problems.

The journey time and the late arrival took their toll on the players and the U13A took until the second period to start firing on all cylinders. Even with a gutsy showing, by then the game was beyond them.

A first period goal from #5 Cian Thomas and two goals from #88 Lewis Lunn saw the game finish 10-3

Plenty of positives to take from the first game of the season however; there are 7 new players in the squad for this season and things will click into place nicely in the coming weeks.

We are expecting good things from this team.

Oxford vs U15

A fantastic result for the U15 team finishing the game with a final score of Devils 9 – Oxford 5

Goal Scorers;

Sam Davies x 4
Alessio Bovelenta x 2
Aiden Price x 2
Ibby Evans x 1

Man of the Match went to Sam Davies with Spirit of the Game awarded to Aiden Price.

Everyone said it was fantastic to see the U15s play as team and we cant wait to see how they progress throughout the season!

(Thanks to Geraint Evans and Steve Wilson for the match report)

U18 v Chelmsford

The game started very fast and furious with the Devils going ahead in just under 2 mins with a goal scored by Ethan Nesic. They carried on in the same manner with good possession and pressure which paid off with another 2 goals within 7 minsĀ  scored by Scott Winton and Carter Lloyd.

Chelmsford then began to get a grip on the game by getting a goal back pretty quickly on the power play.

At the end of the 1st period U18 up 3-1

Period 2 started with both teams going punch for punch, The Devils being the better team but Chelmsford hung on and got the score back to 3-2 at 42 mins. Devils re-grouped and got their 4th through Carter Lloyd on 48 mins. This goal moved the devils up a gear scoring 2 more goals on 52 and 54 mins, Ethan Nesic with his 2nd and a fantastic goal scored by CJ Norris beating 3 players after getting knocked down but retaining the puck, getting back up, beating another 2 players then beating the keeper to score making it 6-2 to the Devils.

With the game fading out Chelmsford got a consolation goal with the game ending 6-3

Man of the Match was Netminder Ben Scanlan

(Thanks to Karl Hocking for that rather tremendous match report!)

Swindon Vs U9A

Our U9a played on the Sunday, officially there’s no scoring to U9 games but the feedback from the games was that it was an excellent afternoon of hockey at Ice Arena Wales with plenty of action, goals scored and shots saved. These U9 kids are really going places and will be showing teams what hockey is all about in the older age groups!
